The Beverley, Toronto
By Sasha Exeter
Queen Street West has a new addition in the form of a chic boutique hotel and it’s pretty awesome! I’ve been hearing about the Beverley Hotel several weeks before it opened and have been trolling their social media accounts waiting for those two magical words “NOW OPEN!” so I could get in there and check it out. The building’s facade may confuse some at first and it’s location, as its situated between high street shops, but with the Resto on the ground floor (which seems to be getting a lot of traffic) in addition to the adorable hostesses at the door, it’s almost impossible to not stop and go in.
The 5 floor hotel only has 18 rooms with an ultra minimal aesthetic with everything you need and nothing you don’t. Each guest room boasts a full wall mural reflecting the vibe of Queen West, over-sized pillows, luxe linens and superior bath products and amenities – prices begin at $140 for a Standard double room. The modern decor and design theme continues throughout the entire property. On the rooftop you will find the hotel’s much talked about bar – a contemporary oasis that will make you forget you’re on one of T.O.’s busiest streets. The restaurant downstairs, headed by Executive Chef Eric Wood, mirrors the rooftops stainless steel accents and clean lines. The industrial style of this common area space is combined with mid-century Scandinavian details.
What you will find on the menu: Savory sharing dishes like the Vulgar + Sublime (homemade potato chips avec crème fraîche and Sturgeon caviar), buttermilk fried quail wings and the 4Play – an off menu inspiration of 4 dishes that change daily. The delish mains that are no doubt going to be a hit with diners; The NS Halibut with potato leek fondue, sherry’d beet, charred fennel and orange pesto; the Garganelle pasta and the BVRLY burger with Guernsey cheese, borderlaise, pickle and watermelon – seriously TDF!!!
The drink menu is equally as impressive – 12 cocktails with a mix of in-house specialties and the usual bar mainstays, made to perfection by using fresh ingredients, homemade sodas, syrups and infusions. I couldn’t refrain from obsessively sipping on the French Kiss cocktails all night and totally loved the vino section of the menu, which was split into two categories “Sip” and “Savour”. Restaurant hours are Monday-Sunday 11am-2am. Reservations are suggested for dinner.
